Hey {{first_name}} ,

This week we sat down with Georgina Walsh, founder of OHMG, the sparkling magnesium water that started at a kitchen table and is now listed in Waitrose and Ocado. She tells us about her dad's research into the falling mineral content of our food, the Nourish awards along the way, and how she is carrying the business on after losing her husband and co-founder, Stuart, in January.

Elsewhere, punchy launches what it calls the UK's first hot electrolyte drink, Wild'r brings chilled tuna steaks to 382 Sainsbury's stores, and Intune makes its Waitrose debut. Plus, Ocado opens a Simple Ingredients aisle with 350+ products.

Things you might've missed last week
  • 🔥 punchy launches the UK's first hot electrolyte: The hydration brand known for cold cans and sachets is now serving electrolytes hot, in Orange Spice and Blackcurrant, as a 7 pack on its website. Research it commissioned with 2,000 UK adults found 2 in 5 Brits drink less water in winter, and 81% have no real evening routine. So punchy is pitching Hot Electrolytes as a night time ritual, with ginger root and acerola cherry inside. Winter is usually a quiet season for hydration, and an evening occasion is a smart way to fill the gap.

  • 🐟 Wild'r launches the first chilled, ready to eat tuna steaks in Sainsbury's: Founded by adventurer Doug Worboys, Wild'r went live in 382 Sainsbury's stores and online on 14 October with an MSC Yellowfin Tuna Steak in Ginger, Lime & Coconut. Two 90g steaks cost £7.35, and they are marinated, grilled and chilled, so they can be eaten straight from the pack. The brand points to research showing only 39% of Brits feel confident cooking a whole fish, so taking out the prep is the whole pitch. National distribution from day one is a rare start for a challenger.

  • 🌿 Intune makes its supermarket debut at Waitrose: The bartender-created CBD soda brand launches Pomegranate & Ginger and Elderflower & Hops in selected stores from 19 October through Waitrose's BrandsNew programme. Each can has under 50 calories, 10mg of CBD and under 4g of sugar. Founder Hannah Glasson built the brand through live events and the on-trade, and singer Ella Eyre joined as co-owner in 2025. Proof that building in bars first can pay off on shelf.

  • 🛒 Ocado opens a Simple Ingredients aisle: The new online aisle holds 350+ branded products made with recognisable ingredients and no artificial colours, stabilisers or flavours. Ocado says 74% of UK shoppers prefer products with ingredients they recognise, and its searches for "unprocessed" are up 178% year on year. Clean label is now a merchandising category, which is good news for any brand that already leads with it.

💬 5 Minutes With:

Georgina Walsh

Founder @ OHMG
Check out OHMG:

This week we're chatting with Georgina, founder of OHMG. The sparkling magnesium water began at a kitchen table with her husband Stuart, and was built on her father Dr David Thomas's decades of research into the falling mineral content of our food. Each can has 100mg of magnesium from a TripleMg blend, with no sugar, no sweeteners and no calories. Georgina tells us how OHMG started, why magnesium is moving into the drinks aisle, how she has kept building since losing Stuart in January, and what is next as the brand raises investment.

You started OHMG at your kitchen table. How did it turn from a personal fix into a product you wanted to sell?

“OHMG started with something personal. I had relied on magnesium for much of my life, particularly as a mum of four young children, and I knew first-hand how much I valued it during busy, demanding years.

My father, Dr David Thomas, spent decades studying nutrition and the changing mineral content of our food. Around 15 years ago, we began selling a magnesium supplement. People were genuinely interested in magnesium, but the format felt functional, clinical and easy to forget.

So my husband Stuart and I started asking a simple question at our kitchen table: could we make magnesium something people actually want to have?

That conversation became OHMG. We put magnesium into sparkling spring water with natural flavours, creating something refreshing, colourful and enjoyable rather than another pill.

The ambition was always bigger than a drink: to make magnesium accessible, understandable and part of everyday life for the whole family.”

That idea was also rooted in your dad's research into declining magnesium in food. Most magnesium products are tablets or powders, so how did his research shape what went into the can, and why build a drink with the TripleMg blend instead of another supplement?

“My father's research was our starting point. Over decades, he found significant reductions in certain minerals in our food, including magnesium. That raised a simple question: how do we make it easier for people to get enough every day?

The supplement business had shown us the demand, but I didn't want OHMG to be another tablet or powder.

Each can contains 100mg of magnesium from our TripleMg blend of magnesium citrate, glycinate and malate. We developed the blend specifically for OHMG, so magnesium is the foundation of the drink, not an afterthought.

Everything else is clean and simple: sparkling spring water and natural flavours, with no sugar, no sweeteners and no calories.

That combination is what makes OHMG different: science and honesty, in a format people genuinely enjoy and why we are so proud to have won several Nourish awards, including one this year!”

A leading health food retailer recently told you that magnesium supplements are now their single biggest selling category. Why do you think that's happening, and does it change how you think about where OHMG fits in the market?

“I think people are going back to the foundations. Life is busier and more demanding, food has become more complicated, and people want to understand what their bodies actually need.

Magnesium has been there all along. It's an essential mineral that contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue, but it has been overlooked for a long time. What has changed is awareness.

That growth is exciting because it shows people are actively looking for magnesium. But OHMG isn't another supplement. We sit where wellbeing, hydration and functional drinks meet.

Our role is to make magnesium less clinical and more enjoyable: something you reach for at your desk, after exercise, in the evening or with friends. For retailers, that means bringing magnesium shoppers into the drinks aisle, and drinks shoppers into magnesium, which has been exciting to play a part in with our Waitrose and Ocado listings!”

The OHMG journey since then hasn't been a straight line, especially in 2026. What has actually helped you keep building through the toughest stretches, and has it changed how you lead the business day to day?

“2026 has been the hardest year of my life. My husband and co-founder, Stuart, passed away in January after living with cancer for two and a half years. Losing my best friend, husband and business partner has changed everything.

But it has also made the reason behind OHMG feel even more important. Stuart and I started this together because we genuinely believed magnesium deserved to be better understood and that there was a better, more enjoyable way for people to include it in their lives. I am determined to continue what we started.

The people around me have also been a huge part of that. We are a small business, and I am incredibly proud of the team we have built: a wonderful group of women who have kept showing up, pushing the business forward and believing in what we are building.

I think it has changed how I lead. I am more focused on what matters, more trusting of the people around me and more conscious of building a business with purpose.

There is still so much I want to achieve. We owe it to ourselves, to our team and to Stuart to keep going.”

With that demand building, what's next for OHMG?

“We have always wanted OHMG to be more than a can.

The next stage is about being much more widely available. Our focus is growing in grocery and expanding into hospitality, hotels and spas: the places where people already think about how they eat, drink and look after themselves. To support that, we are currently raising investment.

Education matters just as much. Magnesium is still misunderstood and, for many people, confusing. We want to make the science accessible without making wellbeing feel complicated or clinical.

We started with a simple idea: make something people need into something they actually want. Now we want to take that much further, building a purpose-led, B Corp certified brand that makes daily magnesium simple, enjoyable and accessible for the whole family.”
